Training is based on performance, not on a fixed amount of time. You’ll move forward when you meet the required standards and you feel confident. If a skill needs more work, we’ll identify what to practice and give you the time and guidance to develop it. The goal is to help you become capable and confident, while keeping safety and professional standards at the center.

Most theory is completed online through PADI eLearning, so classroom time is limited. Much of your professional training is practical, with skills developed in confined water and open water. The balance depends on your course and progress. For details about the training format, see the relevant professional training pathway .

Professional training develops skills such as dive leadership, course preparation, teaching, student evaluation, communication, and teamwork. Which skills you practice depends on your pathway and course requirements. As you progress, you’ll learn to support divers and students while making thoughtful decisions and following the applicable safety and training standards.

Your training takes place in active dive-center settings and across Pro Dive bases in Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, and Cozumel. Training in different locations can expose you to varied dive environments, teams, and day-to-day operations. Learn more about the Diving Career Plan .
